Today we are keeping it simple. What is something that is fun, and free? A picnic in the park. Pick a nice day, pack a lunch (which you were going to eat anyways), grab a blanket and go.
There are many facets of picnicking. You can just run to your local park to eat your lunch during a work day. Get away from your desk. Breathe some fresh air. Watch the clouds. Read a book. There are some days when you just need to get away from the stress of your day job.
You can also make a picnic a group event. Bring the kids, the dog, your friends, whoever. Grab a frisbee, ball, kite – whatever you do for fun outside. You can turn it into a barbecue, using the grills that are in some parks.
Finally, picnics can also be a romantic date (click to see how to easily accomplish this, as posted by my friend Sonya). Guys, you get major brownie points for the prep
aration and thinking a little outside the box. It is a great way to talk to your date. You can swing on the swings, or chase each other through the playground (if you are feeling feisty). Depending on your age and tastes, you can class the picnic up with wine, caviar, brie, etc, or you can just buy a bucket of chicken and grab some sodas.
Picnics are an easy way to get out of the house (or work), hang out with friends and loved ones, and commune with nature. Too often we are stuck in our stuffy house, cluttered office or even in front of the tv. Next time you are eating, take a step outside, and enjoy the emergence of Spring!

Great Idea. I usually take my daughters on a special daddy-picnic to our back yard. But getting out in the park would be a lot better for them.

Hi Michelle,
I remember picnicing in the park in Princeton, NJ where I grew up. My late husband and I would even picnic in the van when the weather would drizzle. Just open the van door for the fresh air and view, and nosh on the floor of the van to stay dry!

I can remember many days of going to the park for a picnic. It was fun and cheap at the same time! My parents got me started in this growing up and its something Ive just kept doing ever since. Great suggestion.

I have no excuse. Their is a park across the street. They sell hotdogs or you can order from a gourmet to go that pulls up over the noon hour. And we have had so many lovely days this spring!!!Great idea.

My kids used to love picnics when they were little. I must admit that we haven’t done a real picnic in years. But, now after reading your post, maybe we will!

Before my wife and I were married, I would surprise her and pick her up for lunch and drive to a nearby pack where we would have regular picnics during the summer!… hmmmm… that could still earn some good brownie points….

Excellent idea! Easily done too! We had a family picnic at the park in August last year to celebrate the August birthdays (my mother-in-law is a big birthday party thrower even for my husband who will be 50 this month). I plan to suggest that summer picnic become a birthday tradition.

Some of my fondest memories are lazy afternoons in the sunshine at a local park. Even better if it is on the water and there are boats available.

With this beautiful weather lately, a picnic is just what we need. There is a great park near us on the water with a little beach and playground. The kids love it and they sleep well that night!

I love picnics, but I live in the desert where it gets upwards of 110 degrees. Not exactly picnic weather.
When I’m in a pleasant environment I will do this.
